Dr. Lauren Simkins is the Principal Investigator of the Ice & Ocean Group and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia. She graduated with a BS from Oklahoma State in 2009, a PhD from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2014, and was a post-doc at Rice University prior to arriving at the University of Virginia in 2018.
Alan Zhai is an Undergraduate Research Assistant focused on quantifying bed roughness and its influence on paleo-ice flow in the Amundsen Sea, Antarctica.
The Ice & Ocean Group welcomes incoming fall 2019 graduate students. They will be working on a range of glacial reconstruction and process-based studies in the years to come!
